Excellence in Sports Reporting

Over the past two years, I have been able to secure First, Second, and Third place awards in the Sports Newspaper Writing category at the Tennessee High School Press Association Awards. The first place article is one that I co-wrote this year, where I reported on how both Cross Country teams at my school were able to secure State runner-up finishes through strong team dynamics and depth. The second place article was published in the same issue, where I wrote a short profile about a fellow senior who was vying for a spot on a national frisbee team. The article awarded third place was about the end of a historic season for the USN boys' basketball team. I strive for excellence in sports reporting by using quotes that would give stories depth beyond a score or result. I always aim to tell the story of a season and write about the people that propel teams to results (as opposed to simply the results themselves).
