Matt Walsh Article and Subsequent Opinion Piece

This artifact includes a news article I wrote about Matt Walsh (a conservative pundit living in Nashville) and his public criticism of our school's Gender and Sexuality Alliance. It also includes a column I wrote regarding the importance of supporting transgender students at USN in light of Walsh's actions. Writing this article helped me realize journalism's ability to uplift communities and amplify their voices. It was my first brush with opinion writing, but the column was read in front of our entire high school by the GSA's advisor. I took a risk publicly expressing some overtly political opinions in the column, but it ultimately paid off because it spoke to the importance of uplifting the LGBTQ members of my community.
